GCP Google Cloud VMware Engine (GCVE) — commitment brief

Data sourced: March 2026. Verify current figures at the Google Cloud Pricing Calculatorarrow-up-right.

Coverage summary

Google Cloud VMware Engine (GCVE) supports committed use discounts (CUDs) in exchange for committing to continuously use VMware Engine nodes in a specific region for a 1-yr or 3-yr term. Discounts are applied as contracted rates based on your individual agreement with Google Cloud and depend on the node type and region. Unlike standard GCP CUDs with published flat-rate percentages, GCVE CUD rates are typically negotiated through Google Cloud Sales or available under an Enterprise Discount Program (EDP) agreement. Public pricing pages reference the VMware Engine pricing page for specific rates, which are available within your billing account.

What is covered: GCVE private cloud node consumption (ve1-standard-72, ve2 generation nodes, and similar bare-metal VMware host types) in the committed region. The CUD covers the per-node hourly fee.

What is not covered: Network egress, Cloud Storage used for VMware Engine backups, Google Cloud Backup and DR for VMware Engine (separate product with its own CUD), inter-region traffic, and any software licenses running on the VMware infrastructure (OS and application licenses remain customer responsibility).

CUD types

GCVE CUDs are resource commitment contracts — you commit to a specific node type and quantity in a region for 1 or 3 years. Unlike most GCP spend-based CUDs which publish flat discount rates, GCVE pricing and CUD discounts are provided through your Google Cloud contract or billing account pricing page. Contact your Google Cloud account representative for current node-level committed rates.

Regional availability

Google Cloud VMware Engine is available in approximately 24 regions worldwide — a significantly more limited footprint than the full set of commercial GCP regions (40+). Confirmed Americas availability includes us-west1, us-west2, us-west4, us-central1, us-east1, us-east4, us-east5, us-south1, northamerica-northeast1, northamerica-northeast2, northamerica-south1, southamerica-east1, and southamerica-west1, with additional regions in Europe, Asia Pacific, and the Middle East.

Notable restrictions: GCVE is not available in all GCP regions. CUDs are region-scoped commitments; you must select the region where node consumption will occur. If there is no eligible usage in the committed region, you can request additional node quota to satisfy the commitment. Verify current regional availability with your Google Cloud account team before purchasing.

Archera

Google Cloud VMware Engine is within Archera's commitment management scope. Archera can manage GCVE node commitments, monitor utilization across private cloud deployments, and wrap commitments in a GRI/GSP — eliminating downside risk on over-commitment while preserving contracted node discounts.
