# Bare Metal Solution

## GCP Bare Metal Solution — commitment brief

> **Data sourced**: March 2026. Verify current figures at the [Google Cloud Pricing Calculator](https://cloud.google.com/products/calculator).

### Coverage summary

Bare Metal Solution (BMS) is a specialized, provisioned-hardware service primarily used for running Oracle workloads on dedicated bare-metal servers in Google Cloud data centers. BMS is sold under contractual term commitments of 1, 2, or 3 years — customers effectively lease physical hardware that Google purchases and manages on their behalf. Unlike standard GCP committed use discounts (CUDs) with published flat-rate discount percentages, BMS pricing is negotiated through Google Cloud Sales. The discounted rates versus month-to-month pricing depend on the specific hardware configuration, region, and contract terms agreed upon with your Google Cloud account team.

**What is covered**: Bare Metal Solution server consumption — the per-server, per-hour fee for the physical host. Term commitments lock in a contracted rate for the duration of the agreement, providing price stability and predictability.

**What is not covered**: Operating system licenses (Oracle Database licensing remains customer responsibility), network egress beyond included allotments, Cloud Storage used for backups, and any software running on the BMS servers. BMS is explicitly excluded from standard GCP spend-based CUD programs.

### CUD types

> Bare Metal Solution does not participate in the standard GCP CUD program (resource-based or spend-based CUDs as defined for services like Compute Engine or Cloud SQL). Instead, BMS uses contractual term pricing negotiated directly with Google Cloud. Commitment lengths of 1, 2, or 3 years are available. Discount depth versus on-demand/monthly pricing is contract-specific. Contact your Google Cloud account representative for current term pricing.

### Machine type / SKU coverage

| Hardware / SKU | Term Commitment | 1-yr discount | 3-yr discount | Notes |

## Regional availability

Bare Metal Solution is not available in all standard GCP regions. It runs on dedicated bare-metal servers in purpose-built regional extensions colocated with select Google Cloud data centers, requiring a connection to GCP over a managed private network. Availability is transitioning to an allowlist-only model — prospective customers must engage their Google Cloud account team to confirm current location options.

**Notable restrictions**: BMS is provisioned in specific colocation facilities rather than the full set of commercial GCP regions. Not all GCP regions have a BMS extension. Contact your Google Cloud account representative to confirm availability in your target geography before planning a commitment.

⚠️ CUD availability varies by machine type and region. Always verify at [GCP regions and zones](https://cloud.google.com/compute/docs/regions-zones) before purchasing.

### Archera

Google Cloud Bare Metal Solution is within Archera's commitment management scope. Archera can manage BMS term commitments, monitor server utilization, and wrap contractual commitments in a GRI/GSP — providing downside protection on committed BMS capacity and eliminating the risk of paying for idle hardware at contracted rates.
